About Nanhe Panhe

Encouraging Reading

What We Do

Early years (ages 3-8) are critical for brain development. At Nanhe Panhe we want to encourage reading as a habit in under-privileged children in the age group 5-10 in Tier 2 and 3 cities.

How It Works

Schools catering to underprivileged children in Tier 2 and 3 cities often face challenges in promoting reading and fostering the habit of reading in children, and the culture of the library is slowly fading away.

  • We partner with schools wherein:
  • Schools provide the space, and we stock them with age-appropriate, multilingual books.
  • Teachers are trained as librarians, and children engage in creative activities, reading clubs, and book borrowing.
  • Libraries are refreshed regularly with new books and interactive sessions.
  • Storytelling, reading marathons, and creative workshops help children connect emotionally with stories and develop confidence in reading aloud.

Our Vision

Nanhe Panhe believes reading is not just about letters and words — it's about unlocking imagination, building confidence, and shaping a child's future. Inculcating the habit of reading for underpriviled children can help spark aspirations, build self-worth, and empower them to dream beyond their circumstances.

Our Focus

We address the challenges of limited resources, outdated libraries, and lack of exposure to books by providing:

  • Child-friendly library spaces with colorful furniture and wall art
  • Well-stocked, multilingual, age-appropriate books
  • Teacher training for library management
  • Creative activities like storytelling, art, dramatization, and competitions
  • Integrating a library class/period into the curriculum.

Abhiraj Singh

Founder | Class 9, The Doon School

My name is Abhiraj Singh, and I am a 9th grader at The Doon School in Dehradun. I am an avid reader and have explored Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Keeper of the Lost Cities, Unwanted Quests, Land of Stories, Alex Rider, Cassandra Claire, Sarah J. Maas and am currently reading Dan Brown.

I love playing the electric guitar and will appear for the Rockschool Grade 4 exam this year. I also enjoy swimming and have participated in multiple school events, winning a Silver Medal in the 100m freestyle at the North West Swimming Competition, Gujarat.

My reading journey began in primary school during our 10-minute reading sessions and library classes, which nurtured my love for books.

Reading is a powerful 21st-century skill—it builds imagination, vocabulary, writing quality, and creativity. Through नन्हे पन्हे (Nanhe Panhe) – Little Reading Place, my goal is to help underprivileged children develop a love for reading and complete at least one book every month.

Co-Founder | Class 7, The Doon School

My name is Utkarsh Singh, and I am a 7th grader at The Doon School. I enjoy reading, inspired by my older brother Abhiraj. I also love singing and am training in Indian classical vocal music from Pracheen Kala Kendra. Football is another passion—I train with the Real Madrid Football Club.

I started reading in 1st–2nd grade during Library class. Initially, books felt boring, but gradually reading became a passion. I now enjoy different genres and reading has made me a more creative thinker.

How reading helped me grow:

  • It helps us think creatively and differently.
  • It helps us visualize.
  • It improves focus.
  • It builds vocabulary and confidence.

Through नन्हे पन्हे (Nanhe Panhe) – Little Reading Place, I want to spread happiness—seeing children reading, creating art, performing stories, gaining confidence, and filling the library with laughter brings me joy.
